Ban Sala Dan (Saladan Village) is the main village on the island of Koh Lanta, located at the very northern end. It’s where all boats bringing tourists to the island arrive and depart. Saladan is a small, quite sleepy village but it’s worth having a wander around.
There are some beautiful stilt houses built directly over the water, many of which have very pleasant places to eat with a lovely seaview and be able to watch the comings and goings of the boats.
In Saladan you’ll find many restaurants serving different cuisines as well as Thai – they include seafood, pizza, steak, burgers and Indian food. There is also a selection of coffee shops if you need a fix of cappuccino. For more detailed info, see our Best Saladan Village Restaurants And Places To Eat page.
You will also find tailors, opticians, DVD shops, beachwear boutiques, a night market during high season, diving operators, internet shops, banks, pharmacies and clinics.
Below are useful links to guest houses, hotels and resorts in and around Saladan Village which we recommend. Click on any link to view more photos, read guest reviews and book online:
Saladan is so small, you can walk from one end of the village to the other in about 10 minutes in any direction.
Where Is Saladan Village Located?
Saladan is at the very north of Koh Lanta. It’s the travel hub for Koh Lanta, where all visitors to Koh Lanta arrive and depart. There is a small beach around Saladan itself where several hotels have opened in recent years, and there are also several guesthouse in the village itself. For a more detailed map of Saladan Village itself, see our Google Map below.Klong Dao and Long Beach are the two nearest beaches to Saladan Village, a 10 minute and 20 minute tuk-tuk drive respectively.
As well as the restaurants in Saladan Village, there is a wide variety of places to eat at Klong Dao and Long Beach, and indeed all along the roadside from Saladan to Klong Dao. If you have your own motorbike or push bike, it’s fun to explore all these places as Koh Lanta is very flat. Don’t forget your helmet and lights though!
